Garuda Indonesia has a very decent business class product, although they are using an old 2-2-2 configuration in their Airbus A330s (compared to a 1-2-1 in their B77Ws).
For my latest Southeast Asia trip I needed a flight from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore to Jarkata. As Garuda´s evening flight GA839 from Singapore to Jakarta is always operated by an A330-200, I decided to book this flight by using some of my Etihadguest miles and had to pay only a very small amount of SGD for the tax.
Garuda Indonesia´s first and business class passengers departing SIN are invited to the Dnata Lounge in Terminal 3. It is rather small but the choice of food and beverages is good. There are also a few shower rooms to get freshen up before departure.
The security check was in front of the gates without a fast lane, so I needed about 10 minutes to pass it. When I arrived at the gate, boarding had already started. SkyPriority customers were invited to board at any time and as there was no queue for the priority lane, I was one of the first guests to board the plane.
The business class cabin of the A330-200 is divided into two sections with 18 seats each. One is between door 1 and 2 and the other one is just after door 2. I chose the second section to get a better engine view and it was the right decision – 9 Pax in section 1 and only 2 Pax (including me) in section 2.
Due to slot restrictions, we left Singapore with a delay of about 40 minutes, but as the flight time as only 1 hour and 16 minutes, the captain guaranteed us an on time arrival.
Shortly after departure, the service began and a few minutes later my dinner was served. I could choose from a chicken, pasta or fish menu.
Shortly before descent the crew handed out the customs declaration form and a Fast Track card for the immigration.
We landed on time but had a remote parking position. Garuda´s ground staff handled it very good and a separate minibus with a lot of space and comfortable seats was already waiting for the business class guests.
All in all it was a very relaxed flight with awesome service and food. The only negative aspect was, that it was quite cold in the cabin due to the air conditioning.
